Good morning and happy Saturday! Psalm 51 is one of the most raw, honest prayers in all of Scripture. David wrote it after his greatest failure — and what strikes me is what he asks for. Not just forgiveness. Not just a clean slate. He asks for a pure heart, a steadfast spirit, the joy of salvation, and a willing spirit.

David knew that external behavior change wasn’t enough. He needed something deeper — a heart transformation that only God could do. And so he asks God to create it in him. The same word used in Genesis 1. Only God can create something from nothing — and only God can create a clean heart where there was a broken one.

This is a beautiful prayer for any Saturday morning — a day to pause, reflect, and invite God to do His renewing work in you. Whatever this week held, bring it to Him. Ask for a clean heart. He’s faithful to give it.
